Chicago Symphony Center
Acoustic excellence and architectural metal at an iconic, historical Chicago staple.
For the massive $120 million renovation and expansion of the Chicago Symphony Center (Orchestra Hall), MTH Industries played a specialized role in the high-stakes installation of the hall’s acoustic and ornamental metal systems. Working within a National Historic Landmark, we were responsible for the installation of a sophisticated perforated metal ceiling and wall panel system designed by Kirkegaard Associates and SOM to solve the hall’s long-standing acoustic challenges. This required navigating a century-old structure that had settled significantly over time, necessitating the use of compound radii and precise gasketing to prevent metal-to-metal vibration.
Beyond the auditorium, MTH’s signature craftsmanship can be seen in the ornamental metal finishes throughout the rotunda and public spaces, ensuring the new six-story atrium blended seamlessly with the Beaux-Arts elegance of Daniel Burnham’s original 1904 design.
